Deck Building, Deck Repair & Composite Decking

A few rotten boards, a shaky railing or a full composite rebuild—we handle both the small deck repair and the larger project. The goal is to fix what your deck actually needs, not automatically sell you a new one.

Repair When It Makes Sense. Rebuild When It Doesn't.

Not every deck problem means you need a new deck.

A loose railing, damaged stair tread or rotten board may be a straightforward repair. Other times, opening a small area reveals damaged joists, beams, posts or connections underneath. We look at what is actually there and recommend the level of repair or replacement that makes sense.

Deck Repair

Sometimes the right answer is simply to fix what is damaged.

We take on smaller deck repairs because one failed board, stair or railing does not automatically mean the whole deck needs to come down. When the rest of the structure is still in good condition, a focused repair can be the practical answer.

  • Individual deck board replacement
  • Stair tread and riser replacement
  • Localized stringer repairs or replacement
  • Railing, picket and handrail repairs
  • Loose or damaged framing connections
  • Localized wood rot and framing repairs
  • Repairs discovered during other exterior work

If a small repair exposes a larger structural problem, we explain what we found and discuss the options before turning it into a bigger project.

Structural Deck Repairs

What you see on top is only part of the deck.

Deck boards can look worn while the framing below is perfectly usable—or the boards can look fine while the structure underneath is failing. Joists, beams, posts, connections, drainage and footings all matter to how the deck performs.

  • Joist replacement and sistering
  • Beam and girder repair or replacement
  • Post replacement and support corrections
  • Footing-related repairs when required
  • Rim and band board repairs
  • Stair framing and stringer replacement
  • Framing reinforcement and connection repairs

If the repair needs engineering, a permit or another specialist, we explain that as part of the project rather than guessing around it.

Re-Deck or Rebuild?

Can we keep what is still good?

That is one of the first questions worth asking on an older deck. If the framing is solid, properly supported and works with the new decking, keeping it can save money and avoid replacing good material. If the structure is badly deteriorated or poorly built, a larger rebuild may be the better value.

Re-Decking May Make Sense When

  • The main framing is still solid and usable
  • Posts, beams and joists are in suitable condition
  • The layout works for the intended finished deck
  • Localized repairs can address isolated damage

A Rebuild May Make More Sense When

  • Rot or deterioration is widespread
  • Multiple structural components need replacement
  • Support, footing or framing conditions need significant correction
  • The homeowner wants major layout or structural changes
Composite Decking

Composite decking should look good now—and years from now.

Composite decking is a big part of our deck work, but a good-looking deck takes more than choosing a board color. The framing, fasteners, borders, stairs, railings and transitions are what make the finished project feel complete and hold up over time.

  • Composite deck replacement and new construction
  • Hidden-fastener installations
  • Picture-frame borders and finished edges
  • Composite stair treads and risers
  • Composite and metal railing systems
  • Drink rails and other finished railing details when appropriate
  • Joist protection and related framing details as part of the project
Stairs, Railings & Related Work

A deck is more than the flat surface under your feet.

Stairs, landings and railings are often where a deck gets used the hardest. We can repair or rebuild those pieces as part of a focused repair or a larger deck project.

  • Deck stair repair and rebuilding
  • Stringer replacement
  • Railing and guard repairs
  • Wood, composite and metal railing systems
  • Landings and transitions
  • Porch and outdoor-living improvements related to the deck project
How We Run the Project

The person quoting your deck stays involved in the work.

Handy Andy's is owner-operated, and the owner is frequently on site working with the crew and overseeing the project. That matters on an older deck because once boards come up, we may find conditions nobody could see from the surface.

Owner-Operated & Hands-On

Direct involvement in the work and the decisions that affect the finished project.

Problems Get Addressed

Surprises can happen when an older deck is opened up. When they do, we explain what we found, talk through the options and find a practical way forward.

Repair Before Replace When Appropriate

Not every deck call needs to become a complete rebuild. The recommendation should fit the condition of your deck.

Quality Work & Fair Value

The goal is good workmanship, clear communication and solid value—not simply being the lowest number.

Real Deck Work

See the finished deck—and what it took to get there.

These are photos from our own projects, showing both the finished deck and the work underneath it that makes the finished result possible.

Composite Decking & Railing

Finished composite work with clean borders, railing details and a low-maintenance surface.

Framing & Structural Repair

Exposing and addressing the structure when the problem extends below the finished decking.

Deck Stairs & Access

Stair framing, landings, railings and related work integrated into the overall deck project.

Starting a Deck Project

Show us what is going on. We will help figure out repair versus rebuild.

You do not need to decide whether the answer is a few boards, new framing, new decking or a complete rebuild before calling. Tell us what is wrong—or what you want the deck to become—and we can help sort out the next step.

1

Tell us about the deck

Describe what is damaged, what you want changed or what you would like the finished project to become.

2

Share photos when helpful

We may ask for wide-angle and close-up photos by text or email so we can better understand the existing conditions.

3

We review the next step

Depending on the project, the next step may be a few more details, a site visit or a discussion about repair versus replacement.

Deck Questions

Common questions about deck repair and replacement

Can you replace only a few damaged deck boards?

Yes. If the surrounding deck and framing are still in good condition, replacing individual boards can make perfect sense. If removing them exposes a larger framing problem, we discuss that before turning the repair into a bigger job.

Can you replace the decking but keep the existing framing?

Sometimes. If the existing framing is solid, properly supported and works with the new decking, it may be worth keeping. We evaluate it before assuming either way.

Do you repair rotten joists, beams or deck posts?

Yes. Structural deck repair can include joists, beams, girders, rim boards, posts, stair framing and related support conditions depending on the project.

Do you build composite decks?

Yes. Composite decking is a significant part of our deck work, including complete deck replacement, re-decking where the framing is suitable, stairs, borders and railing systems.

Do you repair deck stairs and railings?

Yes. We handle stair treads, risers, stringers, landings, railings, guards and related framing as part of both smaller repairs and larger deck projects.

How do you know whether a deck should be repaired or rebuilt?

It depends on how much of the deck is damaged, the condition of the framing and supports, and what you want from the finished deck. A limited problem can often stay a limited repair; widespread structural damage may make a rebuild the better choice.

What areas do you serve for deck work?

Our primary deck service area includes Marietta, East Cobb, Smyrna, Vinings, Buckhead, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Kennesaw, Acworth, Woodstock and Canton.
